How to upgrade to Smart SIM 2.0 (iOS)

Had an invite to upgrade; here is how to

Written by Will

Smart SIM 2.0 is free. Your plan, price and renewal date all stay the same.

Smart SIM 2.0 gives you:

  • Faster speeds, so your essential apps keep up when you need them most

  • More insights into when Smart SIM comes to the rescue

  • Access to new features when they drop

Upgrading takes just a few minutes. We’ll give you a new eSIM to replace your current one.

Before you start

Update the Honest app. Make sure you’ve got the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.

Connect to Wi-Fi or your Primary SIM. Your current Smart SIM stops working as soon as you start the upgrade, so you’ll need Wi-Fi to install the new one.

How to upgrade

  1. Delete your old Smart SIM from your phone.

  2. Tap the link in your upgrade email. If it doesn’t take you straight to your SIM, open the Honest app and tap on your SIM. You’ll see the option to upgrade to Smart SIM 2.0.

  3. Install your new Smart SIM. The app walks you through it. Along the way your phone will ask you a couple of questions:

    1. Where will you use this eSIM? Tap Home, even if you’re planning to travel.

    2. Confirm phone numbers (iPhone). Tick your main number and the new SIM at the bottom of the list.

  4. Check that your new Smart SIM is on. Go to Settings > Mobile Service and find your new Smart SIM. Make sure it’s turned On.

Can’t find your new Smart SIM?

Your new Smart SIM won't be called “Smart SIM” in your settings. It could be called Mobile Data, Business, Personal, Secondary or Travel-BICS. You can rename it to make switching easier.

Your new Smart SIM 2.0 won’t show a phone number. That’s normal, as Smart SIM is for data only, and your main number stays on your main SIM.

Still using your old Smart SIM?

If your new Smart SIM is installed but you’re not getting data, your old one may still be turned on.

Go to Settings > Mobile Service, turn off your old Smart SIM, and make sure your new one is turned On. Then delete the old one so it doesn’t get mixed up again.
