RCS (Rich Communication Services) is an upgrade to standard text messaging. It adds things like typing indicators, read receipts and high-quality photos. On Android it's usually called Chat features in Google Messages.

RCS on iPhone đ
If you're using a Classic SIM on iPhone, RCS isn't available right now. Apple and our network partner are still working on enabling it for mobile providers like us.
If you see RCS stuck on âWaiting for activationâ, there's nothing wrong with your phone or SIM, so there's no need to reset your settings. In the meantime:
iMessage works as normal with other Apple users
Messages to Android users send as normal SMS/MMS
We'll update this guide as soon as RCS becomes available on iPhone.
RCS on Android đ¤
If you're using a Classic SIM on Android, you can turn RCS on in Google Messages:
Open the Messages app
Tap your profile picture or the three dots in the top right
Tap Messages settings â RCS chats (or Chat features)
Turn RCS chats on
If Google Messages shows the wrong number or RCS won't connect, follow our guide: Google Messages showing wrong number.
RCS on Smart SIM đ˛
Smart SIM gives you access to over 500 approved apps, rather than traditional calls and texts. That means RCS, SMS and MMS aren't available on Smart SIM. You can keep chatting with friends and family through approved messaging apps.
