A guide on how to fix Google messages showing the wrong number

If Google Messages is showing the wrong number, try these steps one at a time. You don’t need to do all of them unless the issue isn’t fixed.

Turn chat features off and on again πŸ’¬

  1. Open the Messages app

  2. Tap the three dots in the top right

  3. Tap Settings β†’ Chat features (or RCS)

  4. Turn Chat features off

  5. Restart your phone

  6. Go back to Chat features and turn them back on

  7. Send a test message


Clear Google Play Services and Play Store cache βš™οΈ

Clear Google Play Services

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Apps β†’ See all apps

  2. Tap Google Play Services

  3. Tap Storage

  4. Tap Clear cache

  5. Tap Manage space β†’ Clear all data

Clear Google Play Store

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Apps β†’ See all apps

  2. Tap Google Play Store

  3. Tap Storage

  4. Tap Clear cache and Clear data


Reset your SIM card πŸ”„

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Tap Connections

  3. Tap SIM card management

  4. Turn your SIM off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on
