Why is my data allowance not right?

If you've just joined Honest Mobile, or you've changed your plan in the middle of the month then your data allowance will be a bit different. You'll be allocated a pro-rated data allowance and you'll only pay a reflected pro-rated amount. Check out our examples for new customers, downgrading and upgrading your plan below:

Example #1 - New Customer

Here's an example to show what your data allowance is expected to be if you joined Honest on the 16th March on our 4GB plan:

  • 16th March: You join Honest on the 4GB plan. Your data allowance for the rest of the month is 2GB since you joined exactly halfway through the month. Only half of your payment will be used for March, so you're only paying for the days that your SIM is active in the month.

  • 1st April: Your data allowance will refresh to show 4GB data allowance since it's your first full month.

Example #2 - Switching Plan (Downgrading plan)

Here's an example to show you what your data allowance is expected to be if you're already an Honest user and you downgrade your plan from 10GB to 4GB halfway through the month:

  • 1st March: You start the month on our 10GB plan with your full 10GB data allowance

  • 16th March: You change plan to 4GB. You'll have 2GB data allowance remaining, as this is exactly half of 4GB.

  • 1st April: Your data allowance will refresh to show 4GB data allowance.

Note that you'll have paid a little extra for March upfront - this extra credit will go towards April (so instead of paying £13.50 for the 4GB, you'll only need to pay £11.50 as you had an extra £2 on your account).

Example #3 - Switching Plan (Upgrading plan)

Here's an example to show you what your data allowance is expected to be if you're already an Honest user and you upgrade your plan from 4GB to 10GB halfway through the month:

  • 1st March: You start the month on our 4GB plan with your full 4GB data allowance

  • 16th March: You change plan to 10GB. You'll have 5GB data allowance remaining, as this is exactly half of 10GB.

  • 1st April: Your data allowance will refresh to show 10GB data allowance.

Note that you'll have underpaid a little for March upfront, so your next bill will be £2 extra to cover the time spent on the 10GB plan in March.
