Does Smart SIM replace my main SIM and phone number?

No. Your Smart SIM is a data-only SIM, meaning it doesn't provide a phone number for calls and texts. It works best alongside your primary SIM, there for when you lose signal in the UK or want to avoid expensive roaming abroad.

How does Smart SIM work in the UK?

Smart SIM provides unlimited essential apps on any of the big 4 UK networks, givn you the best chance to stay connected. Think of it as a back up connection fo when your primary SIM loses signal.

Here are some examples of when Smart SIM could come in handy:
​1) In a poor coverage or a busy area, where your primary SIM loses signal.

2) When you've run out of data on your primary SIM; and need to stay connected without wifi-hopping.

Installing and turning on Smart SIM

How do I install Smart SIM on my phone?

Follow these three simple steps


​Step 1 - Download Smart SIM: Add Smart SIM to your phone scanning the QR code or following the manual setup instructions in your order confirmation email

Step 2 - Activate Smart SIM: Once you've downloaded Smart SIM, open the Honest app and follow the instructions to activate it.

Step 3 - Update your APN settings:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Select 'Network and Internet'

  3. Select 'SIMs'

  4. Select your Smart SIM

  5. Select 'Access point names' - you will need to ensure your Smart SIM is turned on to do this.

  6. Select the '+' or 'Add' in the top right of the page

  7. In the name field, input 'Smart SIM'

  8. In the APN field, input 'super'

  9. Click the 3 dots in the top right and select Save.

  10. Ensure the 'Smart SIM' APN is selected.

How do I turn on my Smart SIM for use?

Using Smart SIM as a back-up data connection

1) Go to 'Settings' > 'Network and Internet' > 'SIMs'.

2) Set your primary SIM as first priority under 'Calls preference' and 'SMS preference'. You might need to click in to each of these options to ensure that is the case.

3)Select your Smart SIM, and update the following settings:

  • Mobile data turned off

  • Switch mobile data automatically turned on

  • Roaming turned on.

Using Smart SIM as your main data connection

To ensure your Smart SIM is your SIM of choice for data you should:

1) Go to 'Settings' > 'Network and Internet' > 'SIMs'.

2) Set your primary SIM as first priority under 'Calls preference' and 'SMS preference'. You might need to click in to each of these options to ensure that is the case.

3)Select your Smart SIM, and update the following settings:

  • Mobile data turned on

  • Switch mobile data automatically turned on

  • Roaming turned on.

Changing networks and resolving problems

How do I change networks?

1) Go to 'Settings' > 'Network and Internet' > 'SIMs'.

2) Select your Smart SIM > Network > 'Automatically select network' and toggle to select a network.

3) Select your preferred network (this may take a few minutes for the networks to load).

Why isn't my Smart SIM's data connection working?

If you have already checked that APN settings are up to date, follow the below steps to turn your Smart SIM on and off to restart network settings.
1) First attempt turning Aeroplane mode on and off again - this is available via your phone settings.

2) Go to 'Settings' > 'Network and Internet' > 'SIMs'.

3) Select your Smart SIM - and toggle 'Use SIM' to off. Once updated, toggle it back on again.
