The easiest way to install, set up and test your Smart SIM is through the Honest app.
Simply open the app, tap your Smart SIM, and select 'Set up SIM' to be guided through the process.
β
Prefer to do it manually? Follow the steps below.
β1. Install your Smart SIM
This adds your Smart SIM to your phone so you can start using it.
Open the Smart SIM email with the subject line 'Your Smart SIM is here π§' β check your spam folder if you can't find it.
Scan the QR code in the email using your phone's camera, or use the manual installation details at the bottom of the email.
Follow the on-screen steps to complete installation.
π‘ You may see Telnyx mentioned during installation; that's expected. They're part of the technology behind the Smart SIM that makes it all work.

2. Confirm your Smart SIM appears in Settings
Go to Settings β Network and Internet β SIMs (or Connections β Mobile Network). You should see both your primary SIM and your new Smart SIM listed, each showing On or Active.
β
Android phones support a maximum of two active SIMs at a time. If you have more than two, you'll need to turn one off before the Smart SIM can be enabled.
β
Your Smart SIM will show a US +1 number β this can't be used to make calls or send messages, but it's there as a reference if needed.
β
β
3. Label your new SIM as "Smart SIM"
Once installed, rename your eSIM so you can easily tell your SIMs apart.
β
Go to Settings β Network and Internet β SIMs (or Connections β Mobile Network), select your new eSIM, tap the pencil icon on the top of the screen, enter Smart SIM and tap Save.
β
4. Turn On Data Roaming
Go to Settings β Network and Internet β SIMs (or Connections β Mobile Network β the exact path varies depending on your phone). Select your Smart SIM and turn on Roaming (Data Roaming).
β
5. Update your Access Point Name (APN)
Go to Settings β Network and Internet β SIMs (or Connections β Mobile Network), select your Smart SIM, and tap Access point names.
Tap the + icon in the top right to add a new APN, then fill in the following:
Name: Smart SIM
APN:
data.net
Leave all other fields blank, tap Save, and make sure this APN is selected.
β
5. Turn off Private DNS
Some Android phones, including all Pixel devices, have Private DNS enabled by default. This can prevent your Smart SIM from routing data correctly and should be turned off.
β
Go to Settings β Network & Internet β Private DNS and change the setting from Automatic or On to Off.
6. Verify setup & test
Open the Honest app and tap your Smart SIM. You'll see Test Connection as an option.
The app will walk you through three checks: turning Wi-Fi and any VPNs off and switching the connection to the Smart SIM. Once all three stages pass with a green tick, you're good to go.
β
If the test fails, go back through steps 4 and 5 to double-check your data roaming and APN settings.
If you need any help with the connection test, check out our Test Connection Guide.
