What is an eSIM?
Updated over 3 months ago

An eSIM works in a similar way to a traditional physical SIM card. The main difference is that it's stored digitally within the phone, as opposed to getting a SIM card to physically place within your phone.

It looks like a QR code that you simply scan from your phone's camera.

Do I need to have an eSIM - and will my normal SIM card stop working?
No! You can continue to use your physical SIM card and we'll continue to support them for our customers.

Why would you choose an eSIM over a physical SIM card?

There are a few reasons - we've tried to summarise some of the most popular ones below:

  • Having two mobile numbers: Most phones only have the capability to take 1 physical SIM card. Some people like to receive phone calls on 2 numbers (e.g. a business number and a personal one). So a good way to have 2 phone numbers is to have one on the physical SIM card, and one on the eSIM.

  • Environmental: Getting a phone connection simply by scanning a digital QR code means nothing physical needs to be sent to someone's address.

  • Speed to set up: We can get you started on an eSIM on the day of ordering – you're not sitting around waiting for your physical SIM to arrive.

Will an Honest eSIM allow me to roam on other networks?

No. That's our Smart SIM – a product that we're gradually testing and rolling out to customers at the moment.
